1) At a glance
| Topic | The concrete answer |
|---|---|
| Base hotel | Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown, 2950 Cityplace West Blvd, Dallas, TX 75204, TripAdvisor 4.4 from 460 reviews as shown on the hotel's own Hilton page. Its own rooftop lounge, Upside West Village, is on site |

| Sunset | Friday, October 2: about 7:11 PM CDT. Saturday, October 3: about 7:09 PM CDT |
| Best sunset rooftop | Crown Block at Reunion Tower, the only 360 degree option in the plan, book a table for 6:00 PM on Saturday |
| Airport link | DART Orange Line from DFW Airport Terminal A Station (near Gate A10) into Dallas, roughly 50 to 55 minutes to the Uptown area |
| Parking reality | Canopy has no self-parking, valet $36 per night. Leave the rental car idea at home |
Sales tax and tips: Texas posted prices are before tax (Dallas combined rate 8.25 percent), and 18 to 20 percent tip is normal for table service and bar tabs.
1b) Our recommendation, and the best alternative
Recommended: Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown. It puts you in West Village with the rooftop lounge Upside literally above your rooms, the Katy Trail and Uptown nightlife on foot, Klyde Warren Park 0.30 miles away, Reunion Tower 2 miles (about 10 minutes by car), Love Field 4 miles and DFW 23 miles. The hotel's own page shows a TripAdvisor average of 4.4 from 460 reviews, so it clears our quality bar comfortably, and it has 150 rooms across 8 floors, free WiFi, a 24 hour fitness center and complimentary Canopy Bikes. Check-in 4:00 PM, check-out 11:00 AM. Guide value approx. $200 to $310 per room per night as of June 2026, so two twin-share rooms land around $200 to $310 per person for the whole weekend. Reception line: +1 214-522-2929.
Best alternative: The Statler Dallas, Curio Collection by Hilton, 1914 Commerce St, downtown on the Deep Ellum side. The killer argument is that Waterproof, your Friday rooftop, is 19 floors above your pillow, and Bourbon & Banter is in the basement for the after-round. Guide value approx. $190 to $300 per room per night as of June 2026. Slightly less green and leafy than Uptown, considerably more "walk home from the rooftop in three minutes".
Second alternative for the Deep Ellum edge: Kimpton Pittman Hotel, 2551 Elm St, right in Deep Ellum, boutique rooms and an easy walk to the music venues. Guide value approx. $180 to $290 per room per night as of June 2026. All three are private rooms only, no dorms, no party chains.
Honest budget word: at $500 per person, lodging plus one steakhouse dinner will eat roughly 70 percent of it. That works if the other two evenings are cocktails plus food hall, which is exactly what you asked for. If someone wants a bottle at Waterproof, the budget is gone in one order.
1c) Book now
| What | By when | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel, 2 rooms, October 2 to 4, 2026 | As soon as possible, October is peak convention season in Dallas | https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/dfwrmpy-canopy-dallas-uptown/ . You will see the binding price for your exact dates and occupancy at the provider’s booking step, it changes daily. |
| Crown Block, table for 4, Saturday 6:00 PM (sunset seating) | Reservations open up to three months in advance, so from about July 3, 2026. Book that week | https://crownblockdallas.com/reservations/ , phone 214.321.3149 |
| Waterproof, Friday evening, table or cabana | 2 to 3 weeks ahead for a Friday | https://www.waterproofdallas.com/ |
| Perot Museum, timed entry Saturday | 1 week ahead, weekend slots sell out | https://www.perotmuseum.org/tickets |

| Flights into DFW or Love Field | The earlier the better, prices are live and move daily | Airline sites directly. You will see the binding price for your exact dates and occupancy at the provider’s booking step, it changes daily. |
2) Day by day
Friday, October 2, 2026: arrival, then straight up
Getting in from DFW. Walk to DFW Airport Terminal A Station, the connection is on the lower level near Entry A10, and take the DART Orange Line. All Orange Line trains serve downtown Dallas, and you can transfer to the other rail lines downtown at Pearl/Arts District, St. Paul, Akard or West End. For the Canopy, ride to Pearl/Arts District and transfer one stop north on the Red or Blue Line to Cityplace/Uptown Station, which surfaces directly at West Village, roughly 55 minutes door to door. Buy in the GoPass app before boarding, or at the station ticket machine. DART cut regional fare prices effective March 1, 2026, with the Regional Day Pass dropping to $9, so budget roughly $9 per person per travel day and confirm the current tier in the app before you tap, see https://www.dart.org/fare/general-fares-and-overview/fares . Price comparison: rideshare DFW to Uptown runs about $45 to $75 for the 23 mile trip, about 30 to 40 minutes, so with four people a single van ride is close to the train, and much faster with luggage.
Coming into Love Field instead? Take DART Bus Route 5 Love Link from the terminal to Inwood/Love Field Station, then rail into town. Love Field is only 4 miles from the hotel, about 15 minutes by car, so a rideshare at roughly $20 to $30 for the group is the sane choice here.
6:15 PM, Waterproof, The Statler, 19th floor. From Cityplace/Uptown it is 2.5 miles, about 12 minutes by car. Doors and drinks with the downtown towers at eye level, sunset at about 7:11 PM. The rooftop opens at 4:00 PM and runs to 2:00 AM on Friday, and the venue is 21+ all day, so IDs out even at 6:00 PM. Drinks are cocktails and punch bowls that serve 3 to 5 people, wine by the glass and light bites such as smoked brisket sliders, queso and parmesan truffle fries, which is exactly the right calibre before a food hall dinner.
9:00 PM, Exchange Food Hall, 208 S. Akard St, 0.6 miles from The Statler, about 12 minutes on foot. Open until 11:00 PM on Friday, 13 eateries and 2 bars over two floors: Mexico City tacos at Chilangos, Lebanese and Moroccan wraps at Baboushi, pizza at DOUGH!, Pad Thai at The Wok, burgers at In Good Company. Everyone orders something different, nobody argues, total damage about $18 to $28 per person plus tax.
💡 Tip: Waterproof publishes no cover charge and no minimum spend for regular tables, but bottle service is "inquire for details", which is code for a spend commitment. If a host offers you a cabana, ask for the minimum in dollars before you sit down.
🌧️ Plan B: Waterproof is a poolside rooftop, so a Texas thunderstorm sends everyone inside fast. Fallback is Bourbon & Banter, the speakeasy style bar inside The Statler, then straight to the food hall which is fully indoors.
Saturday, October 3, 2026: museum by day, 561 feet by night
10:00 AM, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St, 1.3 miles from the hotel, about 7 minutes by car or 25 minutes on foot via Klyde Warren Park. Saturday hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Adult general admission is $27, which covers all 11 exhibit halls. Add-ons if you feel like it: the traveling exhibition Soccer: More Than a Game at +$12 and a 3D film at +$8, both requiring a general admission ticket. Museum parking in Lot B under the Woodall Rodgers Freeway is $15 per vehicle, first come first served, and the Wolfgang Puck operated Café runs 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Plan 2 to 3 hours, which is the museum's own average.
Cheaper combo: if you also want the GeO-Deck, the Dallas CityPASS bundles the Perot, Reunion Tower GeO-Deck and two more attractions with savings of up to 56 percent over a 9 day window, reservations required, https://www.citypass.com/dallas .
2:00 PM, Klyde Warren Park and the AT&T Discovery District, both free, both photogenic, both 100 percent no dress code. Lunch back at the Exchange Food Hall (Saturday until 11:00 PM) or from the park food trucks.
6:00 PM, Crown Block, Reunion Tower, your upscale dinner and the best sunset seat in the plan. 300 Reunion Blvd E, 2 miles from the hotel, about 10 minutes by car. Saturday service runs 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, sunset is at about 7:09 PM, so a 6:00 PM booking puts you at the window with a first course when the sky turns. Prime beef, Texas Wagyu, Japanese A5 Wagyu, Gulf seafood and sushi, Michelin Guide listed. Valet is complimentary for Crown Block guests at the Motor Lobby entrance on Reunion Boulevard East, and self-parking a short walk away at 601 Sports St is $10 for 0 to 4 hours.
10:00 PM, Upside West Village, the rooftop of your own hotel. Nightcap, elevator, bed. The most civilised end to a rooftop weekend that exists.
💡 Tip: ask Crown Block for a west or southwest facing table when you book, that is the sunset side. And go up 15 minutes early, the tower elevator plus valet handover eats time you did not budget.
🌧️ Plan B: Crown Block is fully indoors behind glass at 561 feet, so rain only softens the view, it does not cancel the evening. If low cloud swallows the tower entirely, keep the reservation for the food and move the drinks to Upside, which has an indoor lounge as well as the terrace.
Sunday, October 4, 2026: brunch high, then out
10:30 AM. Two options depending on your flight time. Crown Block serves Sunday brunch 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, same dress code as dinner, same view in daylight. Or the Perot opens at 11:00 AM on Sunday if anybody skipped it.
Departure. Reverse the Orange Line: ride to the end of the line at DFW Airport Terminal A Station. If you fly American, security is right at Entry A10. For other airlines with bags to check, take the free Terminal Link shuttle bus on the lower level to your terminal, and with carry-on only clear security at Terminal A and use the Skylink people mover. Note for Love Field flyers on a Sunday: the TRE and the TRE LINK shuttle do not run on Sundays, so use the Orange Line to Inwood/Love Field Station plus Route 5 Love Link, or simply take a rideshare for about $20 to $30 for the group.
💡 Tip: Sunday brunch at Crown Block is a genuine reservation item, not a walk-in. Book it in the same call as the Saturday dinner.
2a) DOOR POLICIES, the part you actually paid us for
Everything below is what the venue or its hotel publishes officially. Where a venue does not publish a policy, we say so instead of inventing one, and we tell you who to call.
| Rooftop | Dress code | Reservation | Minimum spend | Age policy | Hours on your dates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crown Block, Reunion Tower, 300 Reunion Blvd E, map | Published and enforced: no athletic wear, sweatshirts or sweatpants, no T-shirts, no casual shorts, no ripped jeans, no ball caps, no flip-flops. Entry is at management's discretion and they reserve the right to refuse service to guests who do not comply. Translation: collared shirt or a nice top, dark jeans without rips, closed shoes | Yes, strongly. Bookable up to three months in advance. Parties of 7 or more must contact the restaurant, groups of 12 or more go through the events team | None published for a table of 4. Reservations for parties of 10 or more may be subject to minimum food and beverage spending requirements | No age policy published, it is a restaurant, so under-21s may dine but not drink. Bring ID | Fri and Sat 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sun brunch 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, Sun dinner 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM |
| Waterproof, The Statler, 19th floor, 1914 Commerce St, map | No dress code published on the venue's official hotel listing. It is described as an upscale rooftop lounge with cabanas, so smart casual is the safe read: no gym wear, no beachwear, no flip-flops after dark. If in doubt, call the hotel before you leave | Recommended for a Friday night and for cabanas, via the venue site | No cover or minimum published for standard tables. Bottle service is "inquire for more details", so agree a figure before you accept a cabana | 21+ all day, stated explicitly on the official listing. This one is non-negotiable at the door | Fri and Sat 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Sun to Thu 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM |
| Upside West Village, rooftop of Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown, 2950 Cityplace West Blvd, map | No dress code published on the hotel's official page. As a hotel rooftop lounge it is the most relaxed of the three, smart casual covers it | Walk-in friendly as a hotel guest, reserve for a group of 4 on a Saturday to be safe | None published | No age restriction published, unlike Waterproof. Confirm at the hotel desk on arrival if anyone in the group is under 21 | Hours are not published on the hotel's official page, ask at check-in or call the hotel on +1 214-522-2929 (hotel front desk number from the official Hilton page) |
Two honest caveats. First, all three venues reserve the right to refuse entry at the door, Crown Block says so in writing, and the others do it in practice. Second, "smart casual" in Dallas in early October at 85 degrees still means no athletic shorts and no flip-flops, that is the exact combination that gets groups turned away.
2b) Experiences and free offers
We could not verify a single guided Dallas rooftop or skyline tour that clears our quality bar (at least 4.6 out of 5 with 50 or more ratings) on an official product page, so we are not padding this table with mediocre ones. What follows is the honest short list: mostly free, freely accessible skyline value, plus the one paid ticket worth buying.
| Offer | Where / start | Price | Rating | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Klyde Warren Park, the deck park over the freeway, free events, food trucks, skyline framing | 2012 Woodall Rodgers Fwy, map | Free | N/A, freely accessible place | https://www.klydewarrenpark.org/ |
| AT&T Discovery District, Media Wall, plaza and the Globe, best free after-dark spectacle downtown | 208 S. Akard St, map | Free, food and drink extra | N/A, freely accessible place | https://discoverydistrictdallas.com/ |
| Exchange Food Hall, 13 eateries and 2 bars, your Friday dinner (see Day 1, listed once) | 208 S. Akard St | Free entry, meals about $18 to $28 plus tax | N/A, freely accessible place | https://discoverydistrictdallas.com/exchange-food-hall/ |
| Reunion Tower GeO-Deck, 470 feet, indoor and outdoor viewing, telescopes, souvenir digital photo, timeslot reservation required | 300 Reunion Blvd E | Adults $19 to $40, seniors 65+ $16 to $35, youth 4 to 12 $10 to $20, price varies by slot (as of June 2026). Day + Night ticket adults $24 to $40, second visit within 24 hours | N/A, attraction ticket, no product rating | https://reuniontower.com/plan-your-visit/ |
| Perot Museum of Nature and Science, your one museum (see Day 2, listed once) | 2201 N. Field St | Adult $27, youth 2 to 12 $17 (as of June 2026) | N/A, attraction ticket | https://www.perotmuseum.org/visit/ |
| Dallas CityPASS, GeO-Deck plus Perot plus two more, savings up to 56 percent over 9 days | Mobile ticket | Varies, check current price | N/A, pass product | https://www.citypass.com/dallas |
Note on the GeO-Deck: ticket sales close and the final elevator ride departs 30 minutes before closing time, and daily hours change with events, so check the official hours calendar at https://reuniontower.com/hours-events/ the morning of your visit. Note on donation and tip based walking tours in Dallas: they are free to book but a tip of about $10 to $20 per person is expected, and the rating belongs to the individual guide rather than the tour, so check your specific guide's score before booking. We did not find one we could stand behind for this itinerary.
3) Practical notes, checklist and costs
What to actually pack for the doors
- Collared shirt or a smart top, dark unripped jeans or chinos, closed leather shoes or clean smart sneakers. That outfit gets you into all three rooftops plus Crown Block
- Leave behind: ball caps, T-shirts, athletic wear, casual shorts, flip-flops. That list is Crown Block's own, and it is the standard the other doors informally use
- Physical ID for everyone. Waterproof is 21+ all day and checks
- A light layer, early October evenings in Dallas cool to the low 70s and rooftops are breezy
Checklist
- 2 hotel rooms booked, October 2 to 4
- Crown Block table for 4, Saturday 6:00 PM, request a west facing table
- Waterproof Friday reservation, cabana minimum clarified in dollars if offered
- Perot timed entry, Saturday morning
- GoPass app installed and a Regional Day Pass loaded before you leave the airport
- Optional: GeO-Deck timeslot or CityPASS
- Sunset alarms set for 6:45 PM on both evenings
Cost overview per person, group of 4, two nights
| Item | Per person | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Lodging, 2 nights, 2 twin rooms | $200 to $310 | Guide value, check the exact date price with the provider |
| Airport transfer, both ways, DART | approx. $18 | Regional Day Pass, roughly $9 per travel day, confirm the current fare in the GoPass app. Rideshare alternative approx. $30 to $40 per person for the round trip |
| Waterproof, Friday, 3 drinks plus shared bites | $55 to $80 | Plus 8.25 percent tax and 18 to 20 percent tip |
| Exchange Food Hall, Friday dinner | $18 to $28 | Plus tax |
| Perot Museum, general admission | $27 | Plus $15 per vehicle if you drive and park |
| Saturday lunch, food hall or park trucks | $15 to $25 | Plus tax |
| Crown Block dinner, 3 courses plus a drink | $110 to $160 | Plus tax, plus 18 to 20 percent tip. Valet is complimentary, self-park $10 |
| Upside West Village nightcap | $25 to $45 | Plus tax and tip |
| Sunday brunch or coffee | $20 to $60 | Crown Block brunch at the top end, coffee at the bottom |
| Optional GeO-Deck | $19 to $40 | Skip it if you did Crown Block and want to protect the budget |
| Realistic total | approx. $490 to $760 |
Budget honesty. The lean version, hotel at the low end of the range, food hall on Friday and Sunday, no GeO-Deck, and a disciplined bar tab, lands right around $490 to $520 per person, which fits your $500. The version where everyone orders Wagyu and a second round at Upside lands closer to $700. The two biggest levers are the room rate and the Crown Block wine list, in that order. Choosing DART over rideshares saves roughly $25 per person, and skipping the GeO-Deck saves up to $40.
Safety and getting around. Uptown, West Village, the Arts District and the AT&T Discovery District are busy and well lit into the night. Between Uptown and downtown it is 2 to 3 miles, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car, and the M-Line Trolley and DART rail cover the same corridor for the price of your day pass. Late at night, take a rideshare, Dallas is not built for pedestrians after midnight.

Frequently asked questions
Do Dallas rooftop bars have a dress code?
Yes at Crown Block, which publishes a strict policy of no athletic wear, T shirts, ripped jeans or flip flops with entry at management's discretion. Waterproof and the hotel's own Upside West Village do not publish a formal code, so this plan treats smart casual as the safe read.
Is Waterproof at The Statler 21 and over?
Yes, the venue's official listing states it is 21 plus all day, not just after dark, so IDs are checked even at an early evening visit.
What time is sunset in Dallas in early October?
For this plan's dates, sunset is about 7:11 PM Central on Friday October 2 and about 7:09 PM on Saturday October 3, which is why the Saturday dinner reservation at Crown Block is booked for 6:00 PM.
